List Building – How to Write an Effective Email Campaign – Part III

By: Sean Ray

Like I have mentioned in the last two articles in this series, list building really is a very special part of maximizing online income (although I may not have said it just like that!). But really, list building is what really allows you to succeed online – because in some way it allows you to break even on the first time the visitor gets to your web site, because you know that you will have future lifetime earnings from that visitor, once he becomes a subscriber.

And that is my purpose with all of my web sites – to get people to become subscribers, because their lifetime value is much higher to me than one unique visitor to a sales page of mine.

But one of the really important things to me is that I write an effective email campaign, one that keeps my subscribers interested in opening my emails, and reading them, and of course clicking through from them for a long time, too. Even a 1% difference in the long-term email open rate can mean thousands of dollars in additional profits – do the math – you will see.

So some of the things that are really important to me is building a long term, hopefully life-long email relationship with my subscribers. I want them to buy from me for many years, as I continually develop new products.

One of the things that is really important in writing the effective email campaign is recognizing that you have to meet their needs online – and that doesn’t always mean selling them something.

I would rather give something away free for 30 days in a row and keep that customer for life, than to lose him the first week because I oversold him. By the way, I do not recommend giving your subscriber something free for 30 days in a row – they will love you for it, but will see you as a gift giver only, not someone from whom they can buy.

You see, you have to train your subscribers to buy from you, at the same time as you are building your online relationship with them.
