Major League Baseball All Stars won the Japan All Star Series 2006 in Japan with a 5-3 win over Nippon Professional Baseball. They became the first team to sweep the Japan All Star Series since its inception in 1986. This win also ensured that the All Stars collected a winner purse of 140 million yen. New York Mets’ Jose Reyes ended game 5 with a two-run, walk off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning. This home run resulted in breaking of the three all tie that All Stars and Nippon Professional Baseball were placed at.Ryan Howard from Philadephia Phillies was adjudged the Japan All Star Series Most Valuable Player after hitting .556 which included four home runs, eight RBIs, eight runs and slugging percentage of 1.389. Howard gave credit to the Japanese team. He said that they fought hard and gave the All Stars a good run for their money.Reyes was motivated to give his best by team mates David Wright and Ryan Howard. When the home run was hit, the Japanese fans erupted into cheers, chanting Jose’s name. Reyes said that when he heard his name being chanted, he felt that he was playing in Shea Stadium.Since the time this tournament started, Major League Baseball All Stars have won is nine out of ten times. The only time they did not win was in 1990. Somehow, this win means a lot to All Stars since it is being played right after the World Baseball Classic that Japan won by beating Team USA along with other teams.
