Part time jobs in India Nowadays, there are lots of options open for Indians to grab a part time job. My experience is rather good. When I was a student of IIT Kharagpur in India, I desperately needed a part time job to pay for my lodging and tuition fees. So I started looking for a temporary job which would not hamper my studies and at least pay my lodging. I visited various websites from my universities computer and spent almost one whole week posting resumes in various job sites and applying for a lot of posts. But mostly they want full time employees and people with experience and I had neither. One day, I asked one of my professors to help me out with some reference of some Indian part time jobs that I could do. Because he knew my class hours and the study load that I had and will be having in the future, he would be the best person to recommend to the exact kind of part time job that would suit my needs. I figured that I needed various flexible hours and something that would also pay me enough so that I have a job satisfaction because I am involved with other responsibility which is actually more important. To sustain my studies I needed a temporary job very badly and some of my friends told me that an Indian part time job is very hard to find. I applied for project based jobs which would give me flexible hours and the more hours I would work I would get paid for it but they needed experience so that was out of the question. I wanted to work through the internet because that would enable me to work from my dormitory and I wanted some job which could be an outsourced job online and I would be working comfortably from my dorm room but alas that was not to be. My friend Satish recently got a part time job as a coder in one outsourced company because he has coding experience as he is from the computer science department. Me being from the engineering department, I had no experience in programming hence I was not a suitable candidate for that post. Suddenly one day my batch mate Priya asked me weather I would teach a boy of the eighth standard and I was delighted to hear about a job opportunity. The boy was her cousin and he needed help with his home work and needed a private tutor, she would have helped him out but she already had two tuitions to take care of so she handed down the offer to me. I thanked her a lot and went to her cousin’s house to talk to the boys’ mother. She seemed like a nice lady and she wanted me to teach her son because he thought that a male tutor would be more intimidating than a female one as because her son was a bit mischievous. I agreed instantly and after coming into an agreement with the salary I started teaching the boy every evening after my classes. This paid my lodging costs but I am yet to find a proper part time job which would pay me enough so that I can take the pressure off my father and pay for my own studies and lodging.
