As we slowly roll out of the winter months, spring is coming on like gangbusters. You know what that means. Yep, time to do some spring cleaning. Here are some tips to help. 1. Cleaning Shower Curtains - Your best weapon against soap scum is white vinegar. Cleaning shower curtains can be accomplished by throwing them into the clothes washer. Use a quarter to a half cup of white vinegar instead of detergent. 2. Cleaning Shower Heads - Cleaning shower heads is a necessary task and fairly easy. Take the shower head off. Place it in a bowl with equal mixes of hot water and white vinegar. Leave it for an hour or so and then rinse it thoroughly. 3. Dirty Piano Keys – If you tickle the ivories, they inevitably will get dirty. Dab them with a towel soaked in lemon juice. It will sound terrible, but they will be clean. 4. Tea as a Magic Fabric Restorer - If you have faded fabric, it is time to make tea. Make a pot of strong tea and let it cool. Dip a cotton towel in it and lightly dab it onto the faded fabric. Tea dabbing is not a cure all, but it works in many situations. 5. Cleaning Dirty Eyeglasses – You are going to love this one. Clean dirty eyeglasses with vodka. I swear it does the job. 6. Stop Flies Inside – To get rid of flies, hang cloves in your rooms. Flies hate them much like vampires hate garlic. Yes, it really works. No promises on the vampires! 7. Fireplace Ashes – When it is time to clean fireplace ashes, the best approach is to use a dustpan and large garbage bag. The ash is fine, so go slow. Once done, use a portable vacuum to get the remaining material out. 8. Remove Rust on Furniture – If you have metal pieces on your furniture, they will inevitably start to rust. Rub them with turpentine. Does the trick every time. 9. Garbage Disposal Smell – Does your garbage disposal smell to high heaven? Cut up some lemons and throw them in with the rinds still on. Run water and turn the disposal on. Always does the trick unless something has died. 10. Storing Cleaning Products – Cleaning products are a bit dangerous around flames or too much heat. Store them in low, cool areas such as the bottom of a closet or under the sink. A clean house is a happy house, or so they say. In truth, indoor pollutants can make you sick. Follow the above advice and give your home the once over every spring. You’ll be happy you did and feel better as well.
