The Oakland Raiders announced that quarterback Aaron Brooks has been cleared from the injured player to return full-scale practices this week. However the eight-year veteran will not be put on the starting roster for Monday night's game against Seattle. Brooks was recovering from a severe strained right pectoral muscle for seven weeks already.Coach Art Shell gave more details explaining that Andrew Walter has been preferred to Brooks despite the inconsistency of his game. The two-year veteran will start his sixth consecutive contest this time. The third-round selection in the 2005 draft has recorded a 2-3 record as the starter including two victories in the past two contests. Unfortunately the former Arizona State standout only completed five passes in last Sunday's 20-13 victory over Pittsburgh. Walter also failed to get the offense into the end zone. The Raiders' two touchdowns both came on interception returns, since Walter compiled a 17.3 passer rating.Despite Walter, 24, has only recorded 58 of 116 passes for 735 yards, with three touchdowns and three interceptions, and a passer rating of 57.2, and has thrown more than 200 yards in only one game, the Raiders do not consider that Walter will be the next permanent quarterback of the line-up. At the same time, Coach Art Shell does not want to rush the return of Brooks. No return on the starting roster will occur until the player shows his ability to the coaches he deserves his spot.Brooks injured his pectoral during the first quarter of a Sept. 17 loss at Baltimore, while he attempted to recover a fumble. The former New Orleans starter has been originally scheduled to miss 2-4 weeks. Unfortunately his soreness and swelling near the right shoulder sidelined him for longer than anticipated.Brooks was already able to throw on the sideline for stretches for the last two weeks. But this week is the first time since he has been injured that Brooks is allowed to participate into full-scale practices. Brooks will now have to compete with Walter to regain his spot on the depth chart. The question remains how long it will take for Brooks to perform as well as before. Shell wished that Brooks will be able to come back quickly, but seems committed to keep Walter on the roster for now.
