By: Christain Cullen

One of the ways that most people can live a healthier lifestyle and decrease the risk of becoming ill is to reduce the amount of sugar in their diet. For many people and especially for those that suffer from diabetes, it is important to not consume excessive amount of sugar each day. To help with your sugar intake why not have alook at the following recommendations.

We all know that sweet foods including cakes, cookies and candy have high amounts of sugar and these foods should be avoided, but there are plenty of other types of food that include lots of sugar that you might not be aware of.

One of the ways to keep track of how much sugar (carbohydrates) is in food is to easily look at the nutritional information label on most foods. Many foods you find in the supermarket are labeled with lots of information that you can use to determine if a food is healthy for you. Just check out the back or side of the package to see how many grams of carbohydrates a product has and its daily percentage per serving. Using this information, you can easily determine if this product has excessive amounts of sugar or if it is a good choice.

When eating at restaurants, finding foods with low amounts of sugar can be more difficult. The best way to tackle this problem is to purchase a book that gives you the amounts of carbohydrates in most foods. You can always ask the waiter or waitress if a food is high in sugar, they can usually be helpful in suggesting a food that has a lower amount of sugar.
