Recollect and reconstitute
Your willingness to be resolute
Your ability to not convolute
Hastily rebel and dispute
Your self-importance refute
Primitive drives stay alive
Distinguishing characteristics
Conceit, flattery, and pride
Fanciful notions do reside
Making it difficult to turn the tide
Let us self-deprecate and chide
Ourselves for being so swell
Self-absorbed en route to hell
Excessively favorable opinions
Images of ruling in dominion
Metaphorical dainty minions
Don't enjoy such options
Subordinate, deferential,
Obsequious, and compliant
As for ourselves triumphant
We continually conquer
Drink our own dialogue
As if it were sweet liquor
Being deceived and delighted
In our many achievements
Ability to show resilience
In the midst of defiance
From friends and foes
Bathing in accolades
From our head to toes
Self-approving often
Burying negativity
Quickly in a coffin
Before we do dwarf
Discount and diminish
Allow others us to finish
Never! Instead we polish
Project personal salutation
Celebrate with aggrandization
Uplifting self with no hesitation
Enlarging ourselves unto inflation
Deriving from it a new sensation
A means of mental masturbation
The appearance is our fascination
Though it simply be a fickle farce
A capricious conundrum for fun
A paradoxical, insoluble question
A dilemma of immense proportion
This ego by which we are tainted
Frustrated and misrepresented
Our self-assessment exaggerated
Nevertheless we entertain it well
Our easily brought under its spell
Its presumptuous representation
Arrogant sort of social alienation
Insensitive, indifferent, and unaware
The ego without compassion and care
Self-seeking, gratifying, and unfair
Thy vain ego leaves you up in the air
Uncertain, unfitting, and grossly undue
Beware lest your ego deceive you.
