Given the boom in Internet marketing sites over the last decade, search engines have become more specialized to weed out sites that are SPAM related. Because of this, the art of creating website content that is search engine optimized (has the best chance of coming up on the top of the search engine’s list when certain key words are input) has become a valuable tool in constructing and effective website message.

Not only is it important to create content that is reader friendly, it is vital to include the key words that a website visitor might type into a search engine in your message. Most ethical SEO content providers suggest designing your message to be readable first and keyword rich second. In addition to these basics, consider the following five points when creating your website content.

1. If the key words do not flow naturally in the copy, consider using words that have a part of the keyword or a plural form.

2. Keep your content simple. Search engines will occasionally consider sites with lengthy copy to be SPAM related.

3. Make sure your content is spell checked before you put it on your site. Links with many misspellings have a better chance of being filtered.

4. Keep your content at a readable yet professional level. Along with misspellings, search engines might skip over sights that are overly simplistic.

5. The infrequent use of stop words (non-noun descriptive words) in your text could be a red flag to a search engine. Stop words are typically found in more descriptive and well written narrative.
