SEO Keyword Tags – Why Do You Need Keyword Tags?Keyword tags are generally used in the html of your webpage, and are intended to inform a search engine visiting your site what the theme of your site is. The fact is that most crawlers now ignore the meta keyword tag, though it can sometimes be useful.If you use keyword tags in your html, then it is important that you also use the same keywords in the body of your html text. Then it might help to give your page a boost in the listing for that keyword. If your keywords only appear in the meta tag, then it will not help you.At one time in the past it was all different. Search engine crawlers would reach a webpage then look at the html in the order that it appeared. They would come across the meta tags early, and take these as an indication of the theme of the site. Looking at each keyword listed in the meta tags, the crawler would check the text for the density of that keyword relative to the rest of the text. The importance of the site as related to that keyword would be determined by the keyword density.Take a webpage based on Siamese cats, for example. The meta tags would list the keywords ‘Siamese cats’ and ‘cats’’ and the search engine would search the ‘body’ section of the html for the text strings ‘Siamese cats’ and ‘cats’. The more instances of these words it found, the more relevant it would rate the webpage for these keywords and the higher in the listings it would appear to anybody searching for information on Siamese cats.
