Sales Letter Writing - How to Outline Your First Sales Letter For Your Web Sales Page

By: Sean Mize

Today we are going to begin to write a sales letter. The most important parts of your sales letter are going to be all the teaser points about everything you are teaching about in your book, and the headline, which gets them to read the letter in the first place.

Which is more important? The headline or the teaser points? Most copywriters will tell you that the headline is the most important part, since if the headline doesn’t create excitement, your sales letter will never be read. However, the teaser points are critical, also, so place emphasis there too---they are going to tell the potential customer all the wonderful things they are going to learn when they buy your book.

Now, this is actually the best time to write your sales letter, before you have written the book. You see, right now you are at your creative best. You are excited about each of the things you are going to teach in your book. When you finish writing and you have written everything you know about the topic, and you have edited your book, you will not be in any mood to get creative with teaser lines.

At this point, pull out the outline you created with all your points on it about which you are going to write.

I want you to take every point---yes, every point, all 150 of them, if that is how many you have, and write a teaser line for each one.

You are going to frame each one of the teaser points so that they will impact the reader the most. Remember, you are going to sell this to someone you don’t know, and the only thing they are going to buy it for is to learn how to apply your principles to their life, to make their life better.

So here are some ideas:

If you are writing about organization (from the earlier example):

Your topic is:

organizing your file drawer

Your teaser line will be:

How to organize your file drawer so that you never lose anything.

Now, keep in mind, if you promise something in your teaser line, you have to actually show them in the book exactly how to do it. That is another reason writing your sales letter early on is good for you, because it will help you formulate ideas for presenting your knowledge to your readers.

Another idea:

Your topic is:

Writing a grocery list.

Your teaser line will be:

Discover how to write a grocery list so that you never forget anything.

Your topic is: Cleaning

Your teaser line will be:

Discover the secrets of cleaning quickly and thoroughly, the first time, every time. Are you starting to see the pattern?

Here is a list of words and phrases that will help you start you sentences. Just start your sentence with the word or phrase, then follow it up with what you are going to show them, then what is special about it, just like the above examples.
