Short Sleeves Insights - I Am Aware Of Something!

By: Hal Manogue

"Man can say nothing of what he is incapable of feeling, but he can feel what he is incapable of putting into words." St. Augustine said that at the turn of the 5th century. Augustine was born in 354 in North Africa and went on to become the Bishop of Hippo. He was influenced by Plotinus and his writings about his Christian faith are varied and are read throughout the church today. He died during the siege of Hippo in 430.

Another one of his quotes worth noting here is; "You can know something which you are not aware that you know." In both of these insights, you can sense that Augustine believed that there was more to him, than what he was taught. His intuitive self was coming through, expressing itself in words. Another aspect of his consciousness was present in his writings. There is certainly a part of me that I am just beginning to know. I have felt it and done many things about it. At times, I would suppress it, other times I would question it, and sometimes I would be angry at it. I could never put it into words, but there was this otherness about me, that was gently nudging me to recognize it. After putting myself through all sorts of drama, I accepted it.

Going through the process of awareness is a unique thing. I can only speak about my experience, each one of us has our own time, place and method of reconnecting. Mine was through writing. Poetry, or should I say my form of poetry, which I call "Sleeves", was the catalyst for me to realize there was a deeper "Feeling" within me, wanting to be discovered. This feeling was my spirit opening itself to my ego driven world, and reintroducing itself to me. Immediately my perceptions of life and my role in it, changed. A warm feeling of unity encapsulated me. Fear of the unknown left me. My world started to make sense. My life had purpose. I had found myself where I never looked before, within.

This reconnection is hard to put into words or symbols, they are the road map, but not the territory where this unity rests. The more I learn the more I realize the growth that's available to me. I am evolving into the entity I have always been, but forgot. In the process, I see the beauty that surrounds me. I feel the love that is me. I connect to the source of all life. Life is connection to the Divine Matrix Of Love, which is what Augustine wrote about so many years ago. The door of knowing is always open for all to walk through. It's a choice and we never miss the door.
