" If you are irritated by every rub, how will your mirror be polished?" Jalal-Ud-Din Rumi is considered to be the greatest mystic of the world, by some people. He was born September 30, 1207 in Balkh Afghanistan. He died in Konya in Southern Turkey, on December 17, 1273. He left behind his Mathnawi, a collection of 3500 odes; 2000 quatrains; a book of table talk; and a large volume of letters. The quote at the begginning of this paragraph is part of his great work. Rumi's message is one of unity, first with yourself, and then expressing it outward, so that you become what you think. If I am irritated by every person, place or thing I see, there is a deeper rooted irritation within myself. I am projecting my inner thoughts out to the world, and I live in constant pain.Rumi also said; " Your thinking is like a camel driver, and you are the camel. It drives you in every direction under its bitter control." The driver is my thoughts and I am the vehicle that travels the physical highway. How's my driving? Where am I going? Do I have passengers? If I am in constant pain, irritated, angry or depressed, the vehicle doesn't go far without breaking down in some way. Disease, broken relationships, job losses, a sense of loneliness, are my destinations through thoughts of negativity. I'm traveling, but I am really standing still. I'm a victim of my own thoughts and I must go within myself to fix the driver. The service station is opened every second, I just need to use it.In a world that honors exterior accomplishments through distorted beliefs and education, it does take awareness to feel myself. It does take a belief in my innate knowledge to rescue me from duality. Reconnecting with my emotions, does take practice, but comes quickly. Relying on my impulses to direct my actions does take faith, but always is on course. Believing I am a whole part of another whole of wellness, clears the doubt. Expressing my truth, changes my direction and motivation.I know where I am going. There is no speed limit or just one road to get me there. I can arrive anytime, for there is a part of me that's always there. When I'm united within my world of thoughts, I can go anywhere and experience joy in everything I see. My mirror is polished for all the world to see. I see Love looking back at me.
