Have you considered going out on your own in 2006 as a solo-professional consultant. That is to say getting a contract or a bunch of contracts to provide consulting services and remain in the work force but running your own show? It is possible and with unemployment down so low it makes sense for companies to hire you too.Being a solo professional is not easy and it is as much about selling, time management and self-confidence as it is about your actual abilities in the market place. By being there for your clientele even if you lack a little in abilities you can clearly make up for it in efficiency, punctuality and professionalism.Of course being at the top of your game helps and it does require a bit of background studies on you part as well. You will need to be up on all the ever-changing industry buzz words, as well be reading all the inter related trade journals, industry ezines and all the brochures from the latest trade shows. It also helps to network at trade shows, seminars and in online industry forums too.The most important thing when just starting out as a solo professional is to keep costs low and your rates fair but fairly high. Do not under sell yourself in the market just to get work. Companies will pay you a fair amount provided you perform. Consider all this in 2006.
