So you’re out shopping for garden furniture and you just can’t decide between a lovely latticed arbor and a cedar, swinging bench. What on earth do you do? Here’s an idea; buy both! Arbors are tall structures intended for shelter and swinging benches do exactly what they say on the tin. Putting these two garden furniture pieces together makes perfect sense and the arbor basically acts as a frame and shelter for the swing. An arbor swing works with a swing seat attached to the top of an arbor using metal chains, or strong rope; the arbor serving as a frame. Such seats are available as single, double or even triple seaters. Outdoor swinging seats are a luxurious means by which to enjoy your garden with friends, family and loved ones. The user simply sits back and enjoys the gentle to and fro rocking motion whilst soaking up the sun. However, we all know that sun doesn’t last forever and at some point in the near future every garden is going to see rain. Here is where an arbor provides the necessary shelter to keep a swinging seat dry ready for use as soon as the clouds pass. There is no also reason why a swing seat should be bare and uncomfortable. Most seats are available with complimenting cushions and soft furnishings, which are removable for when the weather is bad, and the user wants to take them indoors. The lattice framework often seen on arbors can also be decorated to suit an existing garden décor using climbing roses, ivy and other plants. A planter box placed next to an arbor porch swing with matching plants will look especially attractive. An arbor swing can be crafted using a variety of different materials, each with their own qualities that make them suitable for outdoor use. Cedar and teak wood are good choices for arbor swings not only because they look natural but also because they have their own natural resin which protects the wood from harsh weather conditions. These natural oils acts as a seal against damp and rain, prevent rotting and repel insect pests such as fleas, ticks and termites which can infest outdoor furniture. As with most outdoor furniture pieces, cast iron and aluminium are popular metals to be used. Both are easily crafted into elaborate designs and can act as a very sturdy frame for the swing seat. Another popular choice for outdoor furniture such as the arbor swing is recycled poly resin material. This is a natural looking man made material that is made from recycled plastic waste. Not only is it cheap to manufacture and light in weight, but it is incredibly environmentally friendly. Recycling plastic waste means that less space is used in land fill sites and less trees are cut down in the rainforest to make wooden furniture. A garden arbor seat is a fantastic focal point for any garden, poolside or patio. It incorporates two popular garden furniture pieces into one, saving space and creating a relaxing atmosphere.
