TapRoot Systems Inc., a leading provider of embedded software solutions and reference platforms for smartphones, today announced that its WLAN software solution is available for all 9.x releases of Symbian OS. TapRoot's production ready software solution contains the key WLAN features necessary to support enterprise class applications for dual mode handsets. "Symbian OS is designed to enable a mass market for enhanced communications and information services based on mobile phones," said Jorgen Behrens, Vice President of Product Management and Strategy. "Taproot is a valued partner and Symbian welcomes the availability of Taproot's WLAN solution complementing Symbian's native support for Wifi in Symbian OS v9.3 announced 12th July 2006." The TapRoot WLAN solution is working and available with support for leading WLAN (802.11) chipset manufacturers including Philips, Texas Instruments and Marvell. Additionally, TapRoot's WLAN product is being demonstrated on several mobile phone reference platforms using a variety of bus interfaces (e.g. SDIO, SPI and custom). "TI has long been a leading supplier of mobile WLAN chipsets, and we are excited to extend our work to include collaboration with WLAN SW leaders like TapRoot," said Paul Werp, TI's Business Director of Mobile Connectivity Solutions. TapRoot offers additional production ready software products and system integration services to Symbian licensees to complement Symbian OS.
