Bridesmaids play an active role not only during the wedding ceremony itself but also during the pre-wedding stages. The bridesmaids usually assist the bride in wedding preparations. Bridesmaids help in the wedding shower by preparing and passing out the food and participating in the shower program and games. They can also be relied on to assist the bride in addressing and sending out the wedding invitations. They can also mark down the names of the guests who have responded to the invitation. They can also keep track of the wedding gifts that have been sent so that appropriate thank you notes can be sent to the guests. They also go along with the bride in her trip to wedding bazaars and establishments to help her choose from among the available options.

Attending and helping out during the wedding rehearsals are also expected of the bridesmaids. They can also help in figuring out the wedding guests’ seating arrangements and writing out the name cards for the wedding reception tables. Moreover, bridesmaids can be tasked with spreading word about the bride and the groom’s wedding registry information.

However, the most important role that bridesmaids perform is being there on the wedding day itself. On the day of the wedding, bridesmaids can help by being in church early and ushering in the guests to their proper seats in the church or the wedding venue. This would eliminate the need for special wedding ushers. They also play the individual roles they were assigned in the ceremony itself (ribbons, veil, etc.).

Indeed, bridesmaids have a supporting role in weddings. However, most brides will tell you that their wedding couldn’t have gone as smoothly and as trouble-free as it did if they didn’t have reliable help from these bride’s hand maidens.
