There is very big unitary state that is located in the southern part of Central Europe and named Ukraine. Every province which comprised into this country has its own local authorities. Ukraine has got a quite mild climate, so the winters are not very cold there but a lot of rivers and lakes are usually covered by ice. The mild climate in summer consists of a great amount of rainy days, but there are a lot of hot and dry days too. Owing to favorable conditions, Ukraine is famous for its quality soils and well developed agriculture. Ukraine is considered to be one of the largest exporters of sugar. In general, the country produces a lot of produce: maize, corn, vegetables, fruit, etc. Kiev is the capital of Ukraine and the biggest city of the country. It dates its history since the 5th century. That was the little settlement which became the center of Slavic civilization in the Eastern Europe. The decrease of growth of Kiev was produced by the Mongolian incursion in the 13th century, the city was fully destroyed for a very long period. Significant impact on the growth was caused by the foundation of the Soviet Union. The Ukrainian Soviet Republic assisted Kiev to regain prominence. In 2001 there lived 2,611,300 people in Kiev (census data). Females constituted 53 percents and males 47 percents. Most of population is Ukrainians and Russians, but there is a great deal of different ethnic groups that live there for several hundreds years. In the second part of 20th century its population grew considerably as a result of development of real estate building in this city. During the time of the sovereignty Kiev has been changed a lot. Now there are a lot of high-class luxury hotels and chic restaurants among old buildings of the Soviet era. Ukraine economy gains power after the time of post Soviet problems. Today Ukraine is quite respectable country which is known not as a region of the Soviet Union, but as independent country. Professional economical forecasters say that Ukraine will become a participant of WTO in a quite short time.
