Jewels say a lot about us: What we wear, how we wear them; what we give, and who we give them to. It is a statement all on its own. For some, the higher the price, the more important it is. Still for others, the bigger the stone and the higher the carat, the more valuable it is. But this is not always the case. Sometimes the value of a certain piece comes from the person who gave it to us—how well we regard the person and how deeply attached we are to him/her; how we acquired it—whether as an heirloom or something we saved every peso for; or the lengths we went through to get it—searching high and low to get that elusive vintage.

For those who love jewelry, quality is always key in the choices they make. Aesthetically of course, they are attractive and complementary to you, but its sturdiness, its ability to span generations upon generations of your family is very important as well especially if you want to pass it on to your children and your children’s children.

Heirlooms and vintage pieces hold a lot of history, and heaven knows what secrets they keep! Jewelry lovers would agree that each piece is worth more than its actual price because of sentimental reasons. Jewel pieces dating back to pre- and post-war times are especially valuable since jewelry-making during those times were cut down. But as these are relatively expensive, not a lot of people, especially women, have the privilege of owning such magnificent pieces.

Although it is true that jewelries are a good investment, making jewelries is another matter, but nonetheless, as it turns out, a very good investment as well. There have been quite a few success stories of stay-at-home mothers whose love for jewelry have inspired them to create their own designs. As in any successful venture, their first guinea pigs were their own families. If they like what they see, they’re going to tell their friends about it and pretty soon there will be orders from friends of friends of friends of friends. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Nowadays, shops selling beaded jewelry; stone crafts; shell crafts, and what-have-you jewelry are mushrooming everywhere. Not only because these kinds of jewelries are easier and cheaper to collect but more so because of their versatility and design. In addition, you wouldn’t be losing much when it gets stolen or misplaced. This kind of business was so well-accepted so much so that tools and materials used for jewelry-making are now more or less a dime a dozen, so to speak.

So yes, there’s money in jewels however way you put it. It cuts both ways, actually. For those who used their passion for jewelry to start a money-making hobby turned small enterprise, they not only add more to their collection, they make money out of creating pieces for someone else’s collection; and for those collecting pieces, the satisfaction is in simply having them in their possession.
