Three Ways to Disguise Your Postcard Design

By: pnay

There are many uses of postcard design, but at the same time, there are
unfortunate ways on how people misuse it. Its affordability works both ways, in
making it an indispensable tool for entrepreneurs and as a means for people to
take it for granted.

Look at the pile of trash of the city that you are in and what do you see? Every
type of marketing postcards selling every kind of product you could ever imagine.

As an advertiser, you don’t want the same fate to happen on your marketing tools. But this cannot be helped. People have become used to the idea that postcards and marketing are one and the same. But there’s a trick that you can pull off so that you can hide your scheme with the other uses of postcards.

What are these other uses? Choose from the list below and utilize it as the main
element. Use the ad words only as a backdrop and not the main attraction of the
cards.

1. Tourist postcards
Where is your business located? If there are any tourist spots near you, use that
to your advantage. Use the view, the scenery and what will make people go into it as the main element of your cards.

You can then add your marketing words somewhere in the card that will also be hard to ignore. But that must not be the main focus of the card. This may result for the recipient to easily get the catch. You are making it easy for them to send the cards to the pile of trash.

2. Greeting cards
This will definitely add a plus factor to your public relations. Remembering your
clients on special holidays and on their birthdays will also make them remember
you. So as a business owner, you have to take note of those dates.

3. Collector’s item
It will be great if your hidden ads can be part of someone’s collection. How can
you do this? Think like a collector and ask yourself what kind of postcards are
worth keeping?

• Historical artifacts. Make this a part of your cards and add valuable
information about the image.

• Architecture. It will be great knowing how establishments look before and
after. This will be collected and may later be studied by students of design and
the likes. This will also pique the interest of those who love such elements and
the historical value that they can get from them.

• Propaganda during the war. This will also need thorough research. You have to dig into the historical facts to see how postcards were utilized as propaganda

in times of war in the old times. You can feature the material as part of your
postcard design. By featuring history on your cards, you are not only making your ads work. In a way, you are also educating people about the past and history.

You will never go wrong with such great intentions. In time, no matter how great
your postcard design is, it will still end up in the pile of trash. But as long as you can make people hold onto your cards, the better.
