Discussion of Traffic Sources

I organize traffic into 3 categories. Those categories are: bulk, untargeted traffic, advertising traffic, and referred traffic. Now when I say untargeted traffic, I accept that some might call internet marketing sourced traffic as targeted, but frankly that is only about as good to me as untargeted traffic. I am in this business to make money, and frankly I think that we spend too much time trying to make something out of nothing. So let’s call bulk traffic what it really is – untargeted traffic.

When I say advertising traffic, I mean traffic that you pay for, such as banner ads, PPC, and other advertising. Although I include ezine advertising in this, because I believe that the bulk of ezine advertising is basically advertising traffic, and the reader knows that, although I think that when you find a good ezine in which to advertise, the response you get will be more like one you would get from referred traffic – the key difference is in the quality of the relationship between the ezine producer and the readers of the ezine.

Referred traffic for me includes articles you write, emails that you send to other marketers’ lists with their blessing, and some limited ezine advertising, where the ezine is basically just an opt in list that has a good relationship with its subscribers.

I rank these forms of traffic in just that order: worst: bulk traffic, bad: advertising traffic, and good: referred traffic.

Now, you may think me to be negative at this point, but frankly I wasted a lot of time and money when I first got started, wading through the worst and the bad traffic. If I had not discovered the good traffic, I would not be making in excess of $120 per day in online income right now, I feel confident.
