The summer is slowly coming to an end, but that doesn't mean you can't still take a trip. Here are some tidbits of information to take into account for the last trip of the summer. 1. Foreign Pay Phones - Picking up the phone in another country can present a host of challenges. For instance, how much does the call cost? In most countries, you can now buy calling cards that work the phones to save you the hassle. 2. American Express Mail - If you have an American Express card, you are one lucky devil. You can have your mail sent to any American Express office in the world. Just hop over and pick it up. 3. Deadly Ice Cubes - If you are concerned about the quality of water at a destination, don't make a common mistake. What is it? Drinks with ice cubes. The ice cubes are made from the same water! 4. Montezumas Revenge - If you get diarrhea in a country, you need to focus on keeping hydrated. Try drinking one glass of carbonated water with a table spoon of sugar. 5. Backpacking in Russia - Russia is a tremendous country to backpack. That being said, pick pockets abound in St. Petersburg and Moscow. Don't wear the pack on your back. They will slice it and take off with the contents. 6. Really Cheap Flights - If you have the urge to travel, but little money, there is one really cheap flight option. Charter flights are usually dirt cheap. On the downside, you get what you pay for and there are limited flights. 7. Sweet Sorrow Traveling - If you are on a long trip, you will inevitably get tired of those traveling with you. To avoid this, go solo and hookup with others through hostels and such. When you get sick of them, move along. 8. Air Courier Flights - Yes, they really exist. You can fly for next to nothing to some exotic location. You can only take one bag and usually have to return in 7 days. The shorter the notice you need, the cheaper the flights. 9. Seeing Europe with Children - If you are traveling to Europe and are taking kids, hotels and hostels can be a pain. Try renting a villa and exploring the area around it. They are much cheaper than you think. 10. Walking at Night - One of the great things about traveling is experiencing the nightlife in a new location. When walking on the streets, keep in mind things may be different. In some countries, manholes are not always covered! I have to admit I am addicted to travel. Experiencing another culture and way of life is just tremendous. Of course, you need to know how to laugh at yourself as well. Have a great trip.
