Wealth - Why You Can NEVER Have TOO Much Money

I often hear people who say things along the lines of "Oh, I don't want TOO much money, just enough to get by." You know what I say to that? "Bollocks!"

If somebody gave you $100 million would you accept only one million or a few hundred thousand dollars and say: Keep the rest. I don't want it."? I very much doubt it.

So, why do people say things like that? I'll tell you why. It's because they are trying to sound humble when they know that humble is all that they will probably ever have.

If they were offered or won or inherited a great sum of money they would take the lot. I would. I openly admit it.

Controlling a vast fortune confers with it the power and responsibility of being the custodian of such wealth. You could squander the money on stupid things or you could do very bad things with it or you could use it for good.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to be able to pay for somebody's life saving operation? Or to fund an orphanage? Or to pay for some much needed medical research or equipment? How much money is too much money then?

I recently sent a cheque for $100 to a total stranger on the strength of a radio talkback call. The mother of an 18 year old boy with terminal cancer wanted to send her son to Disneyland as his dying wish. My wish was that I could have given more. But what I did give was $100 more than 99.9% gave. If only 1000 people could have given this amount.

Could you imagine how many people and how many causes you could fund if you had access to massive wealth?

So, next time you hear somebody try to tell you that they couldn't spend ALL that money if they had it, just ask them who they would NOT like to help.

• the kid with terminal cancer?
• the old war widow who is getting kicked out of her home and has nowhere to live?
• the family who don't have enough to eat?
• the single mom with no money and whose clapped out old Datsun 180B has just died?
