5 Steps to Web Site Visibility

There is no point in having a web site if you are the only person to notice it. It might be the best written web site in the world, but without web site promotion all of your hard work will have been wasted. The purpose of a web site is to be seen by other people, and to provide them with information.

Once you have designed your web site and launched it on the internet, you have to attract visitors to it. You must let others know that it exists and that is what web site promotion is all about. There are some simple, well proven and tested steps you can take to achieve this.

The first step to take in promoting your web site is to help the search engines to find and list you in their indices. You should optimize your web site for search engines so that you get as high a listing as possible. The main html optimization tags these days are the tags that tell the search engine spiders what your web site is about. Then write your content to be as relevant as possible about the theme of each page. Do not overuse keywords, but choose them carefully. Check out what words people are using on the search engines to find the information you are providing, and use these as your keywords. Seek keywords that are used a lot, but that are provided for least by other web sites.

Second, you must build a list of email addresses that people have provided to you voluntarily. You can do this by including an opt-in box on one or more of your webpages, where people provide you with their name and email address in return for something that you give them. That something could be a free regular newsletter, a short course in, for example, search engine optimization or even a free ebook. Web site promotion is made easier if you have some to offer free of charge. Everybody likes freebies, especially if they help their own business or are relevant to their hobby or pastime. The addresses and freebies can be used to drive visitors to your site.
