To Bulldoze or Not to Bulldoze that is the question. The Nairobi slums in 2003 had some over 1.8 million people living in 134 slums. There has been a stead growth there. Today HIV/AIDS runs ramped and orphans of dead parents are increasing. The sewage runs thru the streets and crime and filth are everywhere. The garbage and trash continues to pile up and NGOs around the world have come to help, but what can they do?Many projects have taken place and buildings have been built in order to just help a few of the well over 2 million, but the people do not wish to live in them. They are slum dwellers and that is their culture. Of course it is also a breeding ground for HIV/AIDS, International Terrorism recruits and a haven for rat infested living. What Would You Do About the Nairobi Slums?Do you try to help? Some do not want help. Do you educate the Children? Some do not want you there to help. Do you donate money? It is an endless pit. Anything of value you take into the area, you probably will not come out with if you let go of it for more than 20 seconds. Is it really that bad? Worse. What is the government doing about it? What can they do? Everything they do doesn't work or makes the situation worse. If there is going to be an outbreak of some other horrible disease, as if HIV/AIDS is not bad enough, it will start there. To Bulldoze or Not to Bulldoze that is the only question, trust me.http://www.csmonitor.com/2004/0526/p07s01-woaf.htmlhttp://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/3671837.stmhttp://www.peopleandplanet.net/doc.php?id=2217I certainly hope this article is of interest and that is has propelled thought.
