What if We Discovered Another Intelligent Species Off Planet?

What would happened if human beings in their space exploration discovered another intelligent species off planet? Would that shake up the world? Would it cause the collapse of civilization, the collapse of the church and would it possibly throw mankinds civilizations and societies into chaos and controversy?

Indeed I am pro-space all the way! Personally I do not see the problem with meeting species from other worlds or within ours, it would be an interesting interaction. World Religions would have to Adapt or Die, hopefully the latter if they could not handle it. After all it is time to move forward.

The famous late-night spooky talk show host Art Bell talks about that enough and I am a reader of Isaac Asimov, so indeed I hear what you are saying if you also think this could cause problems. Maybe mankind might come closer together and celebrate what it is to be human; I do not disagree that taking pride in ones Pale Blue Dot is good thing too; we should take care of our basket, because we have all of our eggs in it right now.

Of course mankind would need proof that we are not alone so to speak and once they had that it would be a good thing to that end. Ronald Regan made mention of this in one of his World Leader Speeches; makes sense to me. Maybe SETI can then say; We told you so? Consider this in 2006.
