Why Love Handles Are Not Necessarily A Bad Thing?

Now, obviously you’re reading this and thinking there is no such thing as a good love handle, the bulge under your favorite shirt ruins the line, you can’t wear form fitting clothes, you’re always conscious of your waistline. It sounds like a horrible affliction, doesn’t it?

Well, to begin with a lot of people have love handles so you’re not alone. You know your pants will never fall off accidentally, that’s an immediate plus. Love handles are a sign that you’re well nourished. If you were to get hit in the stomach it wouldn’t hurt as much for you as it would for someone with only muscle as fat provides cushioning. You will stay warmer in cold temperatures as love handles are created by fat and fat provides insulation from the cold.

Love handles are soft making it nicer to hug you than someone who is all bones. Love handles make you curvier and you fill out those jeans a lot better than any stick thin model ever could. Love handles are genetic, your body naturally stores fat around the midsection, hips and thighs. Fat stores were important in earlier ages when food was much scarcer, without love handles in the winter back then you would have died. In the seventeenth and eighteenth century women were not considered beautiful if they did not have that spare tire as it was a sign that the family she was from was wealthy enough to feed her. If you were stranded on a desert island or in the wilderness you would survive longer than thinner people, probably long enough to be rescued because of your fat stores in the love handles.

On the other hand, love handles are easily removed by abdominal exercises and even biking or running. They may be unsightly but they don’t mean you’re unhealthy. And since they’re genetic you’re not the only person struggling with them. Every body is unique, and love handles are sometimes part of your physique and sometimes they’re not, if you don’t like your body put in the effort to change it. The important thing to remember is that even if you appear perfect on the outside, it’s the inside that really counts, who you are as a person, if you’re a good person or not. Even the most beautiful, skinny people have the same problems you do when it comes to jobs and families. And frankly a few extra pounds around the midsection is hardly something to obsess over in an age where AIDs, war and disease are running rampant throughout the globe.
