Williamson Unable To Hang Onto The Ball

By: Nigel Kerry

Minnesota Vikings seem to facing not only with their offense but also with their dropped passes. The dropped passes by Troy Williamson were all the more obvious after they lost to the 49ers 9-3.

On the third and 7 at the 49ers 27 yard line, Williamson could not catch an throw by Brad Johnson. If he had caught it, it would have given the Vikings a first down. The next pass into the end zone was also incomplete.

Just before half time with less than a minute remaining, Williamson dropped a ball inside the 49ers territory again at the third and 7.

This is not the first time that Williamson has not been able to hold on the ball. He was unable to hold on to deep passes that could have been touchdowns against Washington and New England. Williams has had nine drop catches this season.

Williamson had been identified as the go to receiver for Minnesota and these dropped catches are of major concern for them. Williamson was the seventh overall draft choice last year.

Coach Brad Childress is of the opinion that all Williamson can do is practice and continue playing. Veterans Taylor and Marcus Robinson have tried to maintain Williamson's confidence during this difficult half of the season and are hoping for the best, specially since Williamson made little impact as a rookie.

With all their ball catching problems, the Vikings are still well placed for a stretch run. Coach Childress thinks that a playoff team is picked the Viking would be the sixth playoff team.
