Writing Articles - Do You Write For Your Reader?

By: Robert McNesby

If you are going to embark on a course of writing articles to increase your website traffic do it with serious intent. It does not make much sense to write an article that does not have useful information or that is written haphazardly.

Visitors to the internet read a lot of articles and absorb a lot of information. They know when they are reading something that is inferior, or contains a lot of fluff and filler. Take your time in composing your article and give it serious thought. Keep in mind, if your article does not offer something of value, the reader has the power of the click, as in clicking out of your site.

Following are some points to think about when writing your articles:

  • Do not write like you are selling something. The purpose of writing articles is to provide your reader with useful information. Once they get to your website you can use it for further purposes of promotion. Remember to put a link to your website at the bottom of your article.

  • Write strong informative copy. If you are promoting an informational product you probably spent a lot of time making sure it was of high quality. The same goes for writing your articles. If they are not of the same high quality, why would anyone bother to look at your product?

  • Do not try to use “high falutin” language, especially, if it is contrived. Readers are not looking to be impressed. They are looking for good information. If you have trouble writing, try to imagine you are talking to your best friend. Write your thoughts and don’t worry about mistakes. You can go back and correct those later.

  • You are trying to build a relationship with your reader. Using a little humor in your articles doesn’t hurt. Your reader will feel that you don’t take yourself too seriously. They will feel relaxed with your style and start to think of you as a friend. If you can get a reader to feel that way, you will gain his trust and he will be more inclined to buy your product.

Try to come up with your own ways to attract readers. There’s lots of competition out there so you have to be on your toes constantly to stay in the game.
