Thus, before setting up a business online, it is best to do a thorough research rather than hook up with a provider who will cost you a lot more than your profits. Also, there are third party merchant account providers that are extremely popular with international and Internet merchants. To become a successful merchant account provider, there are a few basics one needs to understand. Internet Merchant Account Provider An Internet merchant account is an account with a bank or a financial institution that allows a businessman to accept credit card payments from his clients via the Internet. The payment gateway essentially transmits the required data to the Internet merchant account provider. Most local banks, however, do not offer Internet merchant account capability. Merchant Account Service Providers A merchant account service provider is an organization with the ability to set up a merchant account on a business’ behalf. The most common providers are banks. However, the truth is that banks are not comfortable with transactions that take place without the physical presence of a credit card.
