- Where Does The Fear Of Public Speaking Stem From?
In all my years of public speaking, I have learned many techniques to help calm those butterflies in the ol' stomach before getting up in front of a group. Several techniques don't actually have anything DIRECTLY to do with speaking or being in front of the group at all!One time I did a presentation on the topic of Public Speaking and in my intro I asked the audience to grab the big box of 'Fear of Public Speaking' I had placed on everyones tables. They looked around the room quite dumbfounded! Then I asked if I could go to the store and buy a big family-sized bag of 'Fear of Public Speaking', but by then they realized where I was going with this.the fear of public speaking doesn't actually exist, rather, it only exists in our minds! - So You Want to Tap Into the Minneapolis, MN Medical Device Industry?!
So you want to tap into the Minneapolis, MN Medical Device industry, aka 'Medical Alley'? Although this is a huge and rapidly growing industry, it seems impossible to tap into unless you already have medical device experience! As a Technical Recruiter, I have actually had great success placing folks into medical device companies who had little or no medical device experience at all! How did I do it? I would be lying if I said it was easy, but then again, I would be lying if I said it was hard! It seems to me that the number one most important skill that medical device companies look for is folks with strong experience in a HIGHLY REGULATED INDUSTRY! - How Do You Stack Up Against a 18th Century Blacksmith?
I am a strong believer in the professional contracting work avenue/model. I feel it gets us closer to our roots, and takes us back to a time before we had Fortune 500 companies where we could go work for 30 years and retire. Employment, as we know it today, is the newest work model as a whole. There are other avenues and models that have come about as a result of traditional employment, but the idea of someone paying you a set salary for 40 hours a week, giving you 2 weeks paid vacation and 5 PTO days per year is, believe it or not, quite new!!! Right now you are probably thinking I am completely nuts, and that's ok, stay with me and you will see what I mean. - What's More Painful For You In 2007
As we move into an exciting new year, what have you been putting off that you feel is going to cause you temporary pain? We both know that there is something! Public speaking? Starting a business? Expanding a business? Taking up a new hobby? Finding a new job? Asking for a promotion? "This is a new one" you are thinking to yourself right now! Hear me out on this one, I think you will be amazed at how right I am! I made this comparison this morning and just had to share it with the world! You too could be living with a dim light in your daily routine, whether it be work, a relationship, your business, or any other host of activities, and you may not even be aware of it! - Outsourcing: Through The Eyes Of The Pro-Active Person
Outsourcing and offshoring are certainly commonplace in today's workplace. It seems to me that many American workers are fighting it tooth-and-nail, which really translates into complaining about something they can't stop. So what can you do? Wait and go down with the ship? You could, but there are far better options like changing your career focus, starting a business, or becoming a consultant! - 3 Simple Things
Have you tried EVERYTHING to market your Consulting or Contracting services? Are you getting the results you are after? You are probably shaking your head ‘No’ right now. I don’t think ANYONE has all the leads and potential clients they actually want. - Everything I Need to Know About My Career I Learned in Motorcycle Drivers Ed!
It seems funny to think that there could be similarities between career development and motorcycle school, but there was one thing that stood out to me so much that I just had to share it. Although it really wasn’t that obvious to me at the time, 5-some-odd years ago, but looking back, it was a comparison just waiting to be acknowledged. - Let's Say NO Together!
It's autumn right now; the leaves are changing, football is on all day on Sunday, and you finally have an excuse to eat as much pumpkin pie as possible! The long and the short is that this is a wonderful but very stressful time of year for many of us. I think that a lot of it has to do with our inability to say "no" in this "giving" time of year. We as humans try too hard to please everyone, so my challenge to you is to say NO to all invites between now and Christmas day!
