Custom Hats Special occasions sometimes require you to wear a special hat. Readily available hats that are mass produced sometimes are not appropriate. In these situations, the creation of custom-made hats is necessary. Depending on the type of hat you are looking for, custom hats have the potential to be very expensive. Cowboy Hats The first cowboy hat was created in 1865 by a hat maker named John B. Stetson. The cowboy hat is an unusually large hat that found its way into the wardrobe of the inhabitants of the western part of the United States. The many functions of the cowboy hat made it a very desirable piece of headgear for these people. The wide brim offered protection from the intensely hot sun, making it a necessary part of a cowboy's daily wardrobe. The wide brim served as more than a sunscreen, as it was also used to fan a camp fire, and it could easily be seen while waving at others at a distance. Men's Hats The type of hats men wear depends on what the occasion is or the environmental conditions are. Men's hats greatly differ from hats typically worn by women. An Introduction To Hats Throughout history, humans have always covered their heads. In the beginning, people wore hats for only functional reasons. During bad weather, people would wear hats to protect themselves from the elements. During cold weather hats helped prevent the loss of body heat, especially when you consider that 85 percent of our body heat can be lost through the head. Hats were also worn as protection from injury. Later, hats became a status symbol, or a sign of authority worn with uniforms. In modern day times people wear hats more as a fashion accessory.
