  • Sunken Ships
After the invention of the aqualung in 1952, its inventor, Jacques Yves Cousteau and his team explored the waters of Marseilles in the Mediterranean and recovered Greek and Roman urns submerged and unsought for many centuries. A lot of treasure-seekers continuously search the oceans for sunken ships for wealth and fame. According to experts, there are still about three million undiscovered sunken ship sites that remain intact far below the ocean depths. At present, there are an estimated 65,000 sunken ships in North America alone. This fact attracts treasure divers in droves. Sunken ship diving sites have become a tourist attraction in a lot of the world’s oceans. However, sunken ships provide not only treasure but also a glimpse at the rich history of sea faring. • An Introduction To Ships
Ships are large, sea-faring watercrafts specifically designed to traverse large distances at a time in water. They are also capable of carrying heavy loads. They usually have multiple decks and can carry, aside from their load, lifeboats and dinghies. Ship sizes vary depending on their purpose and are often regulated by governing laws. Although ship size is based largely on a ship's intended use, there are still huge ships which are built for prestigious reasons. Years back, a country's ability to produce a huge ship was considered to be a national pride which would showcase how rich and powerful a country is. At present, ships are used for cruises; for transporting people to many parts of the world; as carriers to transfer heavy loads and goods from port to port; or as warships to protect the waters.
