  • How Reiki Heals
Reiki is a healing system that uses laying of hands on a person who wants to be healed. The practitioner of Reiki is not the healer but merely the channeler of the Universal Life Force Energy, or Reiki. Practitioners of Reiki tout that the practice is limitless, repressed only by the limits the person to be healed places upon themselves. The healing that occurs is one of self-development, eliminating bad habits or patterns, accepting change, accepting healing and opening up to possibilities within oneself. Reiki operates on the level of the underlying force that unites all things, the Chi or Ki, this force that vibrates and flows through all matter whether it is physical, mental or spiritual. People who have suffered trauma are equally as healable as someone suffering from a physical disease.
  • The Father Of Reiki
Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki, was a spiritual and philosophical man. There is a great deal of controversy regarding the history and origins of Reiki. To understand this history, it is necessary to understand the man behind the healing. Usui-Sensei was born on April 15, 1865 in the small village of Taniai, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. At the age of three, it is reported that Usui was sent to a Tendai Monastery School. When Usui was 12, he began to study martial arts. This was the beginning of a longstanding appreciation for martial arts and training. He studied 'Yagyu Ryu', a martial art incorporating Samurai swordsmanship (Ken-Jutsu) and unarmed combat (Ju-jitsu). Usui went on to earn 'Menkyo Kaiden' in his 20s, this being the highest level of mastery in weaponry.
  • The Symbols Of Reiki
The Western style of Reiki teachings is focused on the use of symbols or shirushi (Japanese) to convey the Reiki energy to the person being healed. It is said that in Mikao Usui's original teachings he did not employ the use of these symbols. He did, however, bring the symbols into Reiki when he taught the three naval officers his techniques, one of who was Dr. Hayashi, supposedly because they were having difficulty understanding how to transmit energy on a spiritual level and Usui procured the symbols to help them grasp this concept. These symbols were further developed by Hayashi in his spiritual teachings after Usui's death.

An initiation process doesn't take a lot of time as one might assume, though it can be different it take to a maximum of 20-30 minutes and makes a person "high" and greatly increases the spiritual vibrations in the body to a point where the initiate's energy merges with the One. The Reiki Level 2 Attunement or Initiation is for the subtle body or the aura. The three sacred symbols of Reiki are disclosed to the initiate and this attunement gives the initiate even a higher level of energy vibrations and is said to increase psychic vibrations. The Master Initiation is a process after which a person achieves the status of Mater and is now able to teach Reiki and initiate others into the art.
  • Reiki Initiation
Reiki is taught at various levels or degrees and initiation is something that is a part of welcoming a student or initiate into a new Level. Initiation is a process by which a participant gains access to the power of performing Reiki. This initiation is performed on the initiate by a Reiki Master only and after this process is complete the person can begin on the fascinating journey that is Reiki. Initiation is also called as Attunement or Empowerment and though the correct process is not divulged completely and is said to differ from student to student and from Master to Master, everyone has a different way to perform an Initiation or Attunement. A Master is guided by Reiki guides to perform what is right for a particular initiate. In general terms it can be defined loosely as a process or ritual by performing which a Reiki Master opens the initiate's chakras and activates them in order to enable them to channelise Reiki energy in their body and through their hands in order to heal themselves or others by placing their hands upon them or even directing energy from a distance towards a person/goal.

  • Usui Reiki
Reiki is a system of natural healing that was founded by Dr. Usui Mikao hence it is also called Usui Reiki after it's founder. Dr. Usui or Usui Sensei as he is called was a staunch Buddhist who studied esoteric ancient Tibetan and Sanskrit scrolls and meditated on Mount Kurama on the outskirts of Kyoto, Japan. Dr. Usui was also a member of the Rei Jyutu Ka, a metaphysical group dedicated to developing psychic abilities and performing esoteric practices that were looked down upon by traditional monasteries. He was said to have achieved enlightenment there and he synthesized the teachings of Japanese Esoteric Buddhism with Indian and Chinese medicines to form his own brand of healing in which the Universal Healing Light energy was channeled and directed to perform healing. Thus Reiki does not work on merely the physical body but on the subtle body and at the soul level to bring about change.
