  • Fleet Air Arm: A Sight Never To Be Seen Again
    I used to work in the Fleet Air Arm and it was in 1968 that I saw this sight. I worked on 707 squadron. This squadron was a second line squadron that supported front line squadrons with manpower equipment and replacement aircraft. Front line squadron were the first into a conflict.
  • Disaster On Flying Duty
    One day in 1968 our shift was into its fourth night of night flying, the three previous nights having went well. We provide the aircraft to cover the night flying exercises and had spare serviceable aircraft ready in case of a retuning aircraft landing and becoming unserviceable to fly until the fault was rectified. That night spelled disaster.
  • The Fleet Air Arm
    The fleet air arm originated almost 100 years ago. The Royal Aero Club lent the Admiralty two aircraft with which to train pilots. Because the response for flying training was so great, the Admiralty was directed by the government to form the Royal Naval Air Service, the first aerial fighting force in Europe.
