  • Psychological Effects Of Acne
Acne vulgaris (otherwise known as pimples) affects 85% of all adolescents and young adults. This condition is now treatable and the superficial notion of waiting to 'outgrow' acne is unnecessary and potentially damaging, both physically and psychologically. If left untreated, acne can worsen and cause permanent physical scarring as well as psychological damage. Because the face is the direct way we interact with the world, having lesions, pimples, blackheads or acne on the face and, later, scarring can damage the teenager's self-esteem and cause them to withdraw from social relationships and environmental interactions. The misperceived etiology of acne being due to unclean hygiene is often associated with feelings of guilt, embarrassment and shame the teenager feels acutely. Oftentimes, the teenager will be over-indulging in an extreme cleansing ritual to ensure this is not the case, thereby aggravating the condition.
  • Skin and the Ageing Process
Skin ages in two different ways, through inherited genes (intrinsic aging) and environmental exposure (extrinsic aging). The natural process of aging, referred to as intrinsic aging, begins in the mid 20's and deteriorates continuously throughout the rest of one's life. The skin gradually shows the effects of aging on the skin as collagen production decelerates and elastin looses its stretch. The skin exhibits the effects of aging slowly and permanently. The skin regenerates at a slower speed and new skin cell turnover is depressed, causing the skin to shed old cells at a reduced rate.
  • Take Care Of Your Skin
Keeping your skin clean and clear is a process that thousands of beauty care products and pharmaceutical companies invest billions of dollars a year to chase the fountain of youth. With a little bit of knowledge and common sense, there are many things we are in control of that can help us develop a simple and beneficial beauty routine to keep the skin healthy. Although skin care products are marketed primarily to women, there is no gender or age discrimination in the race against time and the eventual destruction of the skin.
  • What Is Skin?
Your skin, weighing in as largest organ on your body, is made up of three layers of epithelial tissue. These tissue layers are made of cells that protect the body against pathogens, secrete fluids and absorb environmental affects. It insulates the body and regulates against temperature. The skin measures 2.5-2.0 meters square, most of which is 2-3mm thick, weighing an approximate 15% of individual body weight. Your skin contains sweat glands, blood vessels, melanocytes and over 1,000 nerve endings. Your skin is complex and responds to touch, heat and texture through sensation. The sun affects the skin through the skin's ability to synthesize vitamins D and B.
  • Hidradenitis Suppurativa
Hidradenitis suppurativa, also called acne inversa, is a severe form of acne that is incurable. It is a recurring skin inflammation that is recognized by blackheads and one or more red, sensitive lesions (bumps on the skin).
  • Warts and Duct Tape
Many wart sufferers have long believed the old myth that duct tape could cure them of their affliction- but now scientists aren't so sure. The quick, easy, effortless, and painless procedure of using duct tape has always been a favorite among treatments, as compared to freeze drying and simply cutting them off. Now, the treatment has been investigated- and found to be much more complex than previously thought.
  • Your Child and Eczema
Why do some children get eczema? We don't fully know why this happens. Some children are born with a tendency to eczema and some are not. It may be present in the parent or other brothers or sisters may have the condition. On the other hand, it may be that there is no family tendency to eczema. This can sometimes be confounding and confusing.
  • Varying Degrees Of Childhood Eczema
Eczema comes in varying degrees of severity. In very mild cases, it may be very difficult for you to find any abnormalities in your child's skin at all. The places where it will be most noticeable is often in the skin creases – behind the knees and in front of the elbows.
  • Does Your Child Have Eczema?
Does your child have eczema? If he or she does then you can be forgiven for being worried. Eczema is a worrying condition for any parent. It can affect children of all ages including babies. In fact, you may see signs of eczema in your baby very soon after birth.
