The early mornings at Churchill Downs have been very busy as preparations for the Breeders' Cup World Championships are well underway. Most of the contenders are already on the grounds putting in their final preparations with a few preferring to stay home in New York and California until the last possible minute. Not all horses take to certain racing surfaces, so the preference of many trainers is to allow their horse as much time as they need to get familiar with all their surroundings.

NCAA Fullcourt Report - March 19, 2007
This is the first time since 1995 that no team seeded #10 or worse has made the Round of 16 and it is only the second time it has happened since the field was expanded to 64 teams in 1985.Last year's NCAA Tournament had the biggest Cinderella story in recent memory as #11 seed George Mason made a Final Four run, while none of the #1 seeds made it past the Elite Eight.

The lack of upsets continued this past week as seven of the top eight teams in the nation (based on my power ratings) made the Elite Eight with North Carolina, Florida, UCLA, Kansas, Georgetown, Ohio State, and Memphis all advancing. The only team in my Top-8 that did not advance was Texas A&M who lost by one point versus Memphis.

Perhaps the two most discussed topics every year when analyzing the NCAA Tournament bracket is the fact that a #12 seed usually beats a #5 seed and the fact that a #1 seed has never lost to a #16 seed.While both situations garner a lot of media attention, neither is really that unusual when you break it down and analyze the actual probabilities.The NCAA Tournament expanded to a field of 64 teams in 1985, so we have 22 years of tournaments with the current seeding format. In 20 of those 22 tournaments (91% of the time) a #12 seed has defeated a #5 seed in the first round.
